Celebrate. Say Thanks. Come Together!

This is the point in the school year where teachers and students start getting excited

about summer vacation.  They start reflecting back on the school year with laughter and joy.

This is no ordinary year though.

Teachers and students have spent the last few months adjusting to a

new way of teaching and learning.

So, despite the postponed graduations and missed end of school traditions,

The Foundation at Shakerag Elementary School

and the Shakerag PTO

simply want to thank the teachers and staff for their everyday commitment

and dedication to the students and the Shakerag community.

A Marathon. Our Shakerag Spirit. A Celebration!

On Saturday, May 23rd, Shakerag parent, Ernesto Lopez will be participating in a

virtual marathon through the Shakerag community.

UPDATE: John Lee, another Shakerag parent has stepped forward and will join Ernesto on his run!

The 26.2 mile run will go through most neighborhoods that feed into Shakerag Elementary,

crossing the finish line in front of the school.

The Foundation is encouraging all current and former students to

step out to their driveways, safely cheer on, and say thank you to the Shakerag teachers and staff by...

Wearing your Shakerag spirit wear!

Drawing chalk art on your sidewalks!

Creating posters and banners!

Video and pictures will be captured during the race to be shared in social media.

Use #shakeragthankyou to share your own videos and pictures.

These are all ways you can reach the teachers and staff to say "thank you".

What else can you do to show your love and appreciation for the teachers and staff?

The Lopez Family

Ernesto and Alicia Lopez, and their boys Alan (10) and twin brothers Aleck and Andre (6),

relocated from Houston, TX in September of 2017 when Ernesto joined

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Cox Enterprises.

They have lived in and loved the Shakerag Community ever since.

Ernesto started running short distance races a few years ago and completed his

first full marathon in 2015.  This event, the virtual version of the 2020 Flying Pig Marathon, will mark

Ernesto's 10th full marathon completion. Official route will be confirmed closer to event.
